Tip Sheet for the Week of March 6, 2006

RELEASED: March 6, 2006

Story Idea
The president of the Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter will take 24 students to Florida during spring break (week of March 19) to build houses. Jason Fehlen, a senior theatre arts major from Osceola,
will lead students at a project site in Hobe Sound. Susan Krueger, a senior lecturer in biology, will lead a second group in North Fort Myers. Fehlen has gone on four other Collegiate Challenge trips, most recently in January when he went to Florida to volunteer there. He describes the upcoming trip as an alternative spring break for students who want to go on a trip and do something good in the process. For details, contact Fehlen at (715) 456-3064 or feehlenjm@uwec.edu.

UW-Eau Claire education students will offer free exploratory French, German and Spanish classes to children in grades 1-5. The classes will meet from 4:10 to 4:50 p.m. on Thursdays in Hibbard Hall. Classes will run March 16-May 11. No classes will be held during spring break (week of March 19). Story Idea
UW-Eau Claire students hope to raise $1,500 to feed the less fortunate March 7 with Soup and Bread Night. The dinner will be from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in Riverview Cafe in Hilltop Center
on upper campus and in The Terrace in Davies Center on lower campus. Students hope to serve 1,000 people while raising awareness of hunger in the Chippewa Valley. Soups, breads and beverages will replace the usual evening menu. Cafeterias will be staffed by volunteers from student organizations and members of the dining services committee. All savings in labor and food costs (up to $1.50 per patron) will be donated to Feed My People, an Eau Claire food pantry. Soup and Bread Night has been a campus tradition since 1995, raising more than $11,000 for Feed My People.
