Professional Translator to Speak to UW-Eau Claire Spanish Business Club

RELEASED: March 1, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — Amparo Rodriguez Asian, an artist, educator and professional translator, will speak to the Spanish Business Club at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, in the Presidents Room of Davies Center.

Rodriguez Asian, who immigrated from Spain in 1981 and now lives and works in Milwaukee, will speak about her work and life experiences since coming to the United States. In addition to teaching Spanish, Rodriguez Asian works as an interpreter, helping Hispanic women communicate better with their doctors during pregnancy and childbirth. A number of her paintings also will be on exhibit.

The presentation, which will be in Spanish, is open to anyone in the campus or Chippewa Valley communities. Refreshments will be served.

The Spanish Business Club meets monthly, inviting native speakers of Spanish from all professions to come and share their experiences. The main purpose of the club is to serve as a bridge between the university and the larger community.

For more information, contact Dr. Juan Carlos Chaves, Spanish Club adviser, at (715) 836-4908 or chavesjc@uwec.edu, or Spanish club president Andrew Reigel at reigelaj@uwec.edu.
