TO: News/Assignment Editors

FROM: Judy Berthiaume

DATE: March 1, 2006

SUBJECT: Aldo Leopold Weekend Events

UW-Eau Claire's Outdoor Recreation has several events planned in recognition of "Aldo Leopold Weekend."

Events include:

  • Aldo Leopold Kick-Off Event, 6 p.m. March 1, Outdoor Recreation Center on upper campus. The event will include the screening of the film "The Greatest Good." The film was produced as part of the U.S. Forest Service's 100th anniversary.
  • Duck Breast, Bison, Elk Stew, Catfish, Walleye Supper and "UW-Eau Claire Reads Leopold," 6-9 p.m. March 2, Outdoor Recreation Center on upper campus. Dinner will be served in a rustic outdoor atmosphere, followed by readings of Aldo Leopold. The readings will be lead by John Hildebrand, Paula Kleintjes and Kate Hale, all members of the UW-Eau Claire faculty and outdoor adventure enthusiasts.

For more information about Leopold events, contact Dan Langlois at (715) 836-3616 or langlodt@uwec.edu.

Gov. Jim Doyle signed legislation in 2004 designating the first weekend of March as "Aldo Leopold Weekend" across Wisconsin to honor the conservation legacy of Leopold and to help foster the idea of developing a land ethic.
