Viennese Ball Scholarship Winners
at UW-Eau Claire Announced

RELEASED: June 26, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — Viennese Ball International Study Awards recognize outstanding academic achievement and service to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Following is a list of students who received these awards at UW-Eau Claire's 2006 Viennese Ball.

Matthew Biedermann, White Bear Lake, Minn., and Bethany Nikstad, Wausau, received Wilhelm and Ingrid Brauner Awards, given to selected exchange students from UW-Eau Claire to the University of Graz, Austria. This award is named for Wilhelm and Ingrid Brauner of the Austrian government, in recognition of their services and efforts in the successful development of the annual ball. Biederman has a double major in German and math and is the son of Mindy and Kurt Biedermann. Nikstad, is a music major and the daughter of Emalyn and James Nikstad.

Nessa Severson, New Glarus, received the Heinz K. Seitinger Scholarship, given to a UW-Eau Claire student studying in Graz. This scholarship is named for former Austrian trade commissioner Heinz K. Seitinger, in recognition of his contributions to UW-Eau Claire's international programs. Severson is majoring in German and instrumental music education. She is the daughter of Susan Walser and Stanley Severson.

The AVL List Award is given to exchange students from the University of Graz to UW-Eau Claire. Scholarship monies are provided by AVL-List of Graz — Helmut List, president. A manufacturer of internal combustion engines and measurement technology, AVL-List is the UW-Eau Claire Foundation's first international corporate scholarship sponsor.

Two Austrian students, Therese Hahn and Christopher Kuales, received AVL-List Scholarships. Hahn is majoring in English education. She is from Bad Gams, Austria, and is the daughter of Ursula and René Hahn. Her American host parents are Sue Peterson and Paul Wiegner. Kuales is also majoring in English education. He is from Schlierbach, Austria, and is the son of Micheala and Ronland Kuales. His American host parents are Kathy and Tim Mentink.

The following students received Viennese Ball Senior Music Scholarships, awarded for talent, academic achievement and contributions to the department of music and theatre arts. The Viennese Ball also supports an additional 25 endowed and division scholarships each year.

Amanda Blaylock, De Pere, is a music education major with choral emphasis. She is the daughter of Bonnie and Forrest Blaylock.

Jeremy Boettcher, Eau Claire, is a senior music education major. His parents are Sue Anne and Jerry Boettcher.

Kenyon Scheurman, River Falls, is a music education major. His parents are Geoffrey and Marcia Scheurman.

Marilyn Spiess, Waconia, Minn., is a music education major. Her parents are Katherine and Mark Spiess.

Claire Tiller, Fridley, Minn., is an instrumental and choral music education major. Her parents are Anne and Jerome Tiller.

Emily Weber, Marshfield, is a senior music education major with instrumental emphasis. Her parents are Sherrie and James Weber.

Allison Bulger, Mendota Heights, Minn., received the Ada Bors Music Service Award, recognizing outstanding service to the department of music and theatre arts. The award is named for the originator and coordinator of the annual Viennese Ball through its silver anniversary year, in honor of her service to the community. Bulger is a music education major. She is the daughter of Lynne and John Bulger.

Catherine Heidke, Muskego, and Cecelia Wisner, Hartland, received W.R. Davies University Center Service Awards that recognize outstanding service to the Viennese Ball. Heidke is a music education major with choral emphasis and the daughter of Jim and Cathy Heidke. She was student teaching during the spring semester but previously served as an arts/events intern in the Activities and Programs office. Wisner has a double major in management and marketing and is the daughter of Sarah Sauer and Paul Wisner. She honed her management skills serving as manager of the UW-Eau Claire student usher corps.
