Tip Sheet for the Week of June 19, 2006

RELEASED: June 19, 2006

Story Idea
UW-Eau Claire alumnus Scott Standiford will be on the upcoming season of "Dream Season," a deer hunting reality show that will air beginning June 27 on The Outdoor Channel. As part of the series, Standiford took UW-Eau Claire wrestling coach Don Parker hunting for the first time since Parker was paralyzed in a 1998 hunting accident. A lifelong outdoor enthusiast, Standiford and his wife, Kimberly, watched the first season of "Dream Season." They then applied and were chosen by Drury Outdoors to be one of the five teams to participate in the show's third season. "Dream Season" is a reality show following the lives of the teams. Each participant films his or her teammate, showing how hunting and the outdoors affects lives, family, work and others. Teams submit the videos they shot throughout the season, and Drury Outdoors selects footage to be on air. Drury Outdoors asked teams to introduce someone new to hunting or to help someone return to the outdoors. Standiford thought of his former professor and fellow hunting enthusiast Don Parker, who suffered a severe spinal cord injury after a fall from his tree stand eight years ago. In October 2005, the Standifords and UW-Eau Claire alumnus Scott Moseley accompanied Parker — who uses a wheelchair — on his first hunt since his accident. Parker was assisted in preparing for the hunt by Rock Creek Disabled Outdoors Inc., an organization based in Willard that provides hunting opportunities for people with disabilities. During the hunt, Scott Standiford and Parker set up in a ground blind while Kimberly Standiford and Moseley videotaped from a tree above and behind them. Voters will decide which team wins the "Dream Season 3" competition – and a prize package worth more than $50,000 -- by voting at www.DruryOutdoors.com. Voting begins June 27. Standiford is available via e-mail at BowHuntHugeBucks@aol.com. You can reach Coach Don Parker at (715) 836-3404 or parkerdc@uwec.edu.
