UW-Eau Claire Student Senate to Host 9th Annual HOUSE Day Jan. 31

RELEASED: Jan. 27, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — An estimated 800 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students are expected to learn about the off-campus housing market during the 9th annual HOUSE Day (Housing Off-Campus University Student Event).

More than 60 landlords representing an estimated 500 Eau Claire rental units will participate in the event, which is slated for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

The Student Senate organizes the annual event to increase communication between students and landlords in an effort to reduce complications associated with signing leases, said Michelle Madsen, the Senate's director of student services, who organized the event with Justin Greif, chair of the Senate's tenant affairs committee.

Landlords are invited to participate in the event after Senate members have determined that they adhere to health codes and are honest with students.

A number of Student Senate members will attend the event to distribute information relating to renting.

Any student who plans to rent — whether they are first-time renters or experienced renters — are encouraged to attend, Madsen said.
