UW-Eau Claire Students Recognized at Wisconsin Choral Directors Convention

RELEASED: Jan. 24, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — A number of students from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire were recognized at the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association State Convention held Jan. 12-14 in Appleton.

Twelve UW-Eau Claire students sang in the Collegiate Honor Choir. Seniors Marilyn Spiess, Waconia, Minn., and Josef Gapko, Eau Claire, were selected to perform as soloists for a Mozart Mass with the Honor Choir. Other members of the choir are seniors Aurora Conde, Altoona, Courtney Gansmann, Allenton/Mukwonago, Holly Samson, Elk Mound and Nicole Marie Andrews, Sheboygan Falls; juniors Caitlin Nelson, Green Bay, Daniel Trelfa, Sturtevant, and Alexander Krukowski, Waconia, Minn.; sophomores Margaret Meinen, Altoona, and Chris Goltz, Marinette; and freshman Kevin Newell, Edgar.

Three UW-Eau Claire students participated in the conducting competition. Conde won the WCDA Outstanding Student Conductor Award for 2006. She was selected from a field of eight student conductors from across Wisconsin.

Dr. Gary Swartzhoff, professor of music, who attended the convention with the students, said he was very pleased and proud of the students' accomplishments.
