Cabaret EAU CLAIRE — Tickets are still available for Cabaret XXVIII. The show is set to open at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. Additional performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20-21 and Jan. 26-28. Matinee performances will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 and 28.

The theme for this year's production is Cabaret Platinum. All the music featured will be from artists' albums that reached platinum status, selling over one-million copies. The sets include the music of Jamiroquai, The Doobie Brothers, Ricky Martin, ABBA, The Commodores, Shania Twain, Tony Bennett and Pat Benatar. UW-Eau Claire Concert Choir, Women's Concert Chorale and the Singing Statesmen will perform. Each group will be accompanied by the student orchestra, directed by senior Ben Herpel-Dobay, Salem , Ore.

Cabaret is the largest annual production of the UW-Eau Claire music department. It has raised over $200,000 in support of on-going scholarships for dedicated music students in the voice/choral and jazz areas at UW-Eau Claire. The production began in 1978 to provide experience for UW-Eau Claire music and theatre arts students in arranging and staging a variety show. Cabaret has grown over the decades and now involves a ten-month production schedule. Today it is a student-run production with aid from Toni Poll-Sorenson, professor of dance, Robert Baca, professor of music, Alan Rieck, associate professor of music, and Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of music. All the choreography, musical arrangements, costuming and set are created by the participating students. Cabaret provides the many music majors involved with an opportunity to produce a show similar to ones they may be expected to produce in their professional careers.

Tickets for the show and dinner are $31.50 for adults, including university faculty and staff; $25.50 for those 62 and older and 17 and younger; and $24.50 for students with a university ID. (ID must be presented at the door; limit two per ID.) Show-only tickets are $18 for adults, including university faculty and staff; $12 for those 62 and older and 17 and younger; or $11 for students with a university ID.
