Students Raise Money for Food Bank Through Soup and Bread Night Initiative

soup and breadEAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students hope to raise $1,500 to feed the less fortunate through a Soup and Bread Night initiative Tuesday, March 7. The dinner will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the two campus cafeterias, Riverview Cafe (Hilltop Center) and The Terrace (Davies Center).

The goal of the student-run event is to serve 1,000 people while raising awareness of hunger in the Chippewa Valley. Students have selected soups, breads and beverages to replace the usual evening menu. Cafeterias will be staffed by volunteers from student organizations and members of the dining services committee.

All savings in labor and food costs (up to $1.50 per patron) will be donated to Feed My People, an Eau Claire food pantry that distributes donated food and other products to non-profit agencies serving senior citizens, single parents, the working poor, the homeless, the mentally ill and others in need throughout the Chippewa Valley.

The cost for meal plan participants is $3.80 (tax included) for those on the declining balance meal plan, or one meal deduction for those on one of the fixed meal plans. Students with a Blugold Account pay $5.54 (tax included). The cash price is $6.50 including tax.

Additional meal plan dollar account, Blugold account and cash contributions to Feed My People will also be welcome at tables in the cafeterias and at Hilltop Center Food Court.

Soup and Bread Night has been a campus tradition since 1995, raising more than $11,000 for Feed My People to date.

UW-Eau Claire's dining services program is administered by University Centers and Programs.
