Hmong Community Fellowship Banquet Set for
March 9 at UW-Eau Claire

RELEASED: Feb. 17, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The 17th Annual Hmong Community Fellowship Banquet, "Hmong: Beyond Refugees," will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in the Council Fire Room of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Davies Center.

Sponsors of the event are the Eau Claire Hmong Mutual Assistance Association and UW-Eau Claire Office of Multicultural Affairs.

The goal of the event is to provide non-profit agencies and businesses time for camaraderie and cultural exchange in order to strengthen relationships within the community, said Charles Vue, UW-Eau Claire Hmong and Southeast Asian program coordinator and co-chair of the event.

The event includes a dinner with Hmong dishes, Hmong community updates, a cultural show and Hmong artifact display, and a UW-Eau Claire Hmong Student Association fashion show.

Vue said the banquet, which typically hosts 250-300 participants, is made possible by the generous support of Eau Claire area individuals, private businesses and non-profit agencies.

"Previous donors and co-sponsors donated $15-$500 to support the local Hmong Mutual Assistance Association and to offset the banquet," Vue said.

The event is open to the public. Reservations are requested before March 1.

For more information, contact Vue at (715) 836-3367, or Ying Xiong of the HMAA, at (715) 832-8420.
