Media Memo: Devroy Forum Speaker

TO: News Editors/Directors

FROM: Judy Berthiaume

DATE: Feb. 17, 2006

SUBJECT: Devroy Forum Speaker

Dana Milbank, a national political reporter for The Washington Post, confirmed this week that he will be the featured speaker at the Ann Devroy Memorial Forum April 25 at UW-Eau Claire.

Milbank writes Washington Sketch, an observational column about political theater in the White House, Congress and elsewhere in the capital. He covered the 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns and President Bush's first term. Before coming to the Post as a Style political writer in 2000, he covered the Clinton White House for the New Republic and Congress for the Wall Street Journal.

The Ann Devroy Memorial Forum and Devroy Memorial Fund were established to recognize the outstanding journalistic work of 1970 UW-Eau Claire graduate Ann Devroy, who died of cancer in 1997 at the age of 49.

Devroy was a White House correspondent for more than 15 years, covering the Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton administrations. At the time of her death, she was the White House reporter for The Washington Post.

The Devroy fund awards a scholarship and helps defray the cost of a residency at The Washington Post for Devroy winners. Winners also have paid internships at Wisconsin daily newspapers.

The News Bureau will provide additional information about Milbank's visit and events relating to the Devroy Forum as details are confirmed.

Karen Kremer, chair of the communication and journalism department, coordinates the event. You can contact her with questions at (715) 836-4431 or kremerkm@uwec.edu.
