Musical Events for the Week of Feb. 27

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Feb. 27. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, Feb. 27:

  • Senior sopranos Nicole Peters, Maplewood, Minn., and Elsa Lacher, Winona, Minn., will present a voice recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert will begin with Schubert's "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen," performed by Peters, followed by Lacher's presentation of "Oh! Had I Jubal's Lyre" by Handel. Works by Strauss, Gounod, Lucy Simon and Reynaldo Hahn also will be performed. The concert will conclude with original works by Lacher and Peters as well as a duet arranged by Lacher.

Sunday, March 5:

  • Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music, will perform an oboe recital at 2 p.m. in Philips Recital Hall. She will be assisted by Tim Lane, professor of music, on flute, Beverly Soll on piano and tenor Mark Mowry, lecturer of music. The performance will open with "Old American Songs" by Aaron Copland, a compellation of four popular American tunes. Works by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Giovanni Daelli also will be featured. The second half of the program will include Arnold Schoenberg's "Mahnung" from "Brettl-Leider" and Kurt Weill's "Youkali: Tango Habanera." The concert will end with "Waltzing Away," by Glenn Smith and Trio for Flute, Oboe and Piano by Madeline Dring.
