New Show on Observational Astronomy to Open
at L.E. Phillips Planetarium

RELEASED: Feb. 15, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The newest show at the L.E. Phillips Planetarium, "More than Meets the Eye," compares naked-eye views of celestial objects with the views from binoculars, small/medium telescopes and professional observatories. This show gives the audience a tour through the four seasonal skies. Visible and invisible objects of the night sky will be explored and explained in detail. At the end of the program audience members have an opportunity to get answers to their astronomical questions.

"More than Meets the Eye" debuts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21. A shorter version for the Saturday children's shows will have its first showing Feb.18. The show was funded by a grant to the L.E. Phillips Planetarium from the American Girl Company, through the Eau Claire Area Foundation.

Planetarium shows are on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. and on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. Group shows and school field trips are available at other times. For more information, call (715) 836-5034. A schedule of shows can be found online.

The L.E. Phillips Planetarium is located on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus in Phillips Hall, with convenient free parking after 6 p.m. and on weekends. The $1 tickets can be purchased at the University Service Center in the Davies Center, next door to Phillips Hall. Call (715) 836-3727 for ticket information.
