Musical Events for the Week of Feb. 13

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Feb. 13. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, Feb. 13:

  • Senior Jacob Boyle, Oconomowoc, will perform a clarinet recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Boyle will open with Jacques Ibert's "Cinq Pièces en Trio" assisted by senior Holly Samson, Elk Mound, on oboe and junior Claire Tiller, Fridley, Minn., on bassoon. Boyle also will present Sonate by Paul Hindemith and "Fantasia and Rondo, from the Quintet," by Carl Maria Von Weber. Boyle will conclude the recital with a piece by Francis Poulenc.

Thursday, Feb. 16:

  • Sophomore Justina Brown, Onalaska, will present a recital on alto saxophone at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall. Brown will perform Serenade for Solo Alto Saxophone by Frank Bencriscutto, "Caprise en Forme de Valse" by Paul Bonneau and "Concerto en Mi Bemol" by Alexander Glazounov. Brown also will feature the works of Pierre-Max Dubois and Jacques Ibert.

Sunday, Feb. 19:

  • The Wisconsin Woodwind Quintet of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will present a concert at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The Wisconsin Woodwind Quintet is a resident faculty ensemble at UW-Eau Claire. The members of the quintet are Kristine Fletcher, senior lecturer of music, on bassoon; Richard Fletcher, professor of music, on clarinet; Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music, on oboe; Tim Lane, professor of music, on flute; and Verle Ormsby Jr., senior lecturer of music, on horn. The ensemble will begin the concert with an arrangement of "Lacrimosa" from the opera "The Child." Carl Nielsen's "Kvintet" also will be performed. The concert will conclude with Kindertotenlieder for mezzo-soprano and woodwind quintet by Gustav Mahler. UW-Eau Claire voice faculty members Mitra Sadeghpour and Kathyrn Duax will perform with the ensemble as well.
