Counseling Services Announces Spring 2006 Group Schedules

RELEASED: Feb. 3, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Counseling Services are offering the following groups for the spring 2006 semester.

  • ADD/ADHD Support Group: 2-3:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 20-April 3
    This is a six-session group to help recognize participants strengths and weaknesses, address self-esteem and criticism, improve relationships, and improve time management and organizational skills. Pete Chellman is the group facilitator.
  • Assertiveness Training: 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 22-April 5
    This is a six-session group that provides training in assertive social skills. Participants will learn to express themselves and feel good about doing so without hurting others in the process. Pete Chellman is the group facilitator.
  • Coping with Depression: 2-2:45 p.m. Mondays, 1st session Feb. 13
    This is an educational, cognitive and experiential group that will discuss techniques, ideas and strategies for working through those "down times." It is a supportive group environment for the college student. The group will accept new members throughout the semester. Dr. Roberta Goodman is the group facilitator.
  • Dissertator's Support Group: 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 31-end of semester This group is intended for faculty and staff working to complete their dissertations and is based on the work of UW-Madison professor Richard Johnson. Participants will work on setting weekly goals, developing strategies to accomplish tasks efficiently, and providing mutual support and accountability. Dr. Nina Albanese is the group facilitator.
  • First Offenders Alcohol Education Groups:
    These groups are offered on an as-needed basis and are facilitated by Counseling Services staff. The program meets the requirements of the Eau Claire Courts' "First Time Offender" Program. For more information, call 836-5521or go to the Counseling Services office at the Old Library 2122.
  • Men's Growth Group: 5:30–7 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 22-May 10
    This group is designed to provide the all male student group a meaningful exploration of personal & interpersonal issues. Pete Chellman is the group facilitator.
  • Self-Esteem for Real Women: 3:30-5 p.m. Thursdays, March 2-16, 30; April 6, 13
    This six-week group will work to boost and solidify participant's self-esteem, covering relationships, eating concerns, authenticity, and life planning. Dr. Nina Albanese is the group facilitator.
  • Success Skills Group: 3-4 p.m. Thursdays, March 9-April 20
    This six-session group will focus on skills that support personal success. These skills include goal setting, time management, active listening, personal communication, conflict resolution, stress management, and personal health practices. Dr. P.J. Kennedy is the group facilitator.
