'Rocky Horror Picture Show' to Return
to UW-Eau Claire

RELEASED: Feb. 3, 2006

Rocky Horror Picture Show posterEAU CLAIRE — "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975), a Winter Carnival tradition at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will be presented Friday, Feb. 10. The very definition of the term "cult film," the audience participation classic will screen at 11:59 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon star as the newly engaged Brad and Janet. Lost in the rain in an isolated area, they visit the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), which will host a very special intergalactic convention that very night.

Keith Phipps of The Onion A.V. Club describes the film as "a fast-paced pastiche of camp, science fiction, rock music, horror, and more camp. The plot is only semi-comprehensible, but the nearly non-stop musical numbers — brilliant conflations of glam-rock and showtunes — and transgressive sexual energy keep things moving."

Jim Sharman directed the 119-minute film, which is rated R.

Admission is $5 for International Film Society members and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff and $3 for UW-Eau Claire students. Tickets are available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, in Davies Center's east lobby, and will be sold at the door.

The film is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
