UW-Eau Claire Splits Forensics Team to Travel to Tournaments in Florida and Iowa

RELEASED: Feb. 2, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team recently split the team to travel to two tournaments being held on the same weekend. In Florida, the team placed fifth on Saturday, Jan. 14, and seventh on Sunday, Jan. 15; in Iowa, the other half of the team placed fifth on Saturday, Jan. 14, and sixth on Sunday, Jan. 15.

The Florida tournament was practice for the American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament, and it was held on the University of Florida-Gainesville Campus. Saturday's tournament was sponsored by Moorehouse College and Sunday's tournament was sponsored by UF-Gainesville.

The Iowa Swing Tournament was sponsored by the University of Iowa on Saturday and by Wartburg College on Sunday. The Iowa competitions were held at the sponsoring school's campus.

Following are the individual results from Saturday's competition in Florida:

Senior Chris Conklin, Green Bay, placed first in extemporaneous speaking.

Junior Christine Zani, Hurley, took first in informative speaking.

Junior Amy Oldakowski, Sobieski, placed fourth in communication analysis and made it to the semi-finals in impromptu speaking and informative speaking.

Following are the individual results from Sunday's competition in Florida:

Oldakowski took second in informative speaking.

Zani placed fourth in informative speaking and sixth in duo interpretation with Conklin. Conklin also placed sixth in dramatic interpretation.

Following are the individual results from Saturday's competition in Iowa:

Senior Chris Kamrath, Chetek, took first in informative speaking and sixth in persuasive speaking.

Senior Abby Czeskleba, Middleton, placed second in communication analysis and fourth in after-dinner speaking.

Following are the individual results from Sunday's competition in Iowa:

Czeskleba placed second in persuasive speaking, third in after-dinner speaking and third in communication analysis.

Kamrath took fifth in persuasive speaking.
