Matthew Rothschild to Visit University and High School in Eau Claire

RELEASED: Feb. 1, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — A lecture sponsored by the Progressive Media Network, a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student organization, and the Chippewa Valley Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin will focus on the loss of civil liberties under the Bush administration.

Matthew Rothschild, editor of The Progressive, a magazine based in Madison, will present "Losing Our Liberties: Life in the Bush Era" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Schofield Auditorium.

Rothschild, who joined The Progressive in 1983, has appeared on "Nightline," C-SPAN, "The O'Reilly Factor" and National Public Radio, and his newspaper commentaries have run in the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the Miami Herald and a host of other newspapers.

A member of The Progressive Media Network said the purpose of Rothschild's lecture is to bring this nationally know progressive leader to Eau Claire to discuss the threat of the Bush administration to civil liberties.

Rothschild's lecture will be followed by a question and answer session.

In addition to Rothschild's lecture on campus, he will spend time in classes at Memorial and North High Schools and will be interviewed by the Progressive Media Network.

The event is free and open to the public.
