EAU CLAIRE — Language expert Richard Lederer — columnist, punster and co-host of National Public Radio's "A Way With Words" — will close the 64th season of The Forum at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Monday, May 8. His presentation, titled "Confessions of a Word Lover," will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium.

Richard Lederer hosts the hour-long public radio show " A Way with Words" every weekend, with fellow verbivore Martha Barnette. The freewheeling program features bloopers, word games, interviews and calls from word-loving listeners. Lederer's syndicated column, "Looking at Language," reaches more than a million readers through newspapers and magazines throughout the United States.

The author of more than 30 books and articles about language and humor, Lederer has over a million books in print — most recently, "Word Wizard: Super Bloopers, Rich Reflections and Other Acts of Word Magic" (2006). His works have been Book-of-the-Month Club and Literary Guild alternate selections, and his writing has appeared in the likes of The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, National Review and Reader's Digest.

Lederer has been elected International Punster of the Year and has been profiled in magazines as diverse as The New Yorker, People and the National Enquirer. He is language columnist for The Toastmaster, Pages and the Farmers' Almanac. In recognition of his ability and influence as a writer and public speaker, Lederer has been named Golden Gavel winner by Toastmasters International and Celebrity in Action by the San Diego Foundation for Educational Achievement.

His presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session and a reception. Copies of Lederer's books will be available for purchase and signing by the author immediately following The Forum.

Tickets are $7 for the public, $5 for those 62 and older and UW System or Chippewa Valley Technical College faculty and staff, and $3 for those 17 and younger and UW System and CVTC students. Tickets are available at the Service Center counter in the east lobby of Davies Center and also will be sold at the door. The Service Center is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Patrons may also charge their tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call (715) 836-3727 — or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free (800) 949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.

Lederer's Forum will be preceded by a tapas and sherry reception, hosted by celebrities from Wisconsin Public Radio, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Dulany Inn of Davies Center. Tickets for the reception are $5 in advance at the Service Center, and any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

Wisconsin Public Radio and Community Television have contributed generous promotional support to The Forum. Best Western Trail Lodge Hotel & Suites Eau Claire (715-838-9989) at 3340 Mondovi Road is the exclusive accommodations partner for The Forum.

Funded by the students of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, The Forum is administered by the Activities and Programs office.
