Guest Pianist Albert Tiu to Perform
at UW-Eau Claire May 3

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire will welcome guest artist Albert Tiu for a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The recital is free and the public is invited.

Tiu also will host a master class for UW-Eau Claire students at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, in Phillips Recital Hall.

Tiu plans to open his Wednesday night performance with Chopin's Prelude in C Major, followed by Alexander Skryabin's Prelude in C Major. The rest of the concert will feature other paired works of similar titles by these two composers. Chopin's Waltz in A-Flat Major will be followed by Skryabin's Waltz in A-Flat Major. The first half of the concert will end with Chopin's Fantaisie in F minor and Skryabin's Fantaisie in B minor. The second half of the concert will feature Skryabin's Fantasy in G-sharp minor and Chopin's Sonata in B minor.

Tiu, a graduate of the Juilliard School, was born in Cebu, Philippines, and studied at the University of the Philippines and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He has won awards in piano competitions around the world, including first place at the UNISA International Piano Competition in Pretoria, South Africa. Tiu taught in the Juilliard Pre-College Division before moving to Singapore to become an assistant professor at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory. He has performed on five continents, appearing as a soloist with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Hamburg Symphony, Johannesburg Philharmonic, Guangzhou Symphony, the Northern Sinfonia in England, Louisiana Philharmonic, and others. He has recorded two solo CDs: "Variations" and "Salamisim."
