'The Sandlot' to Screen at UW-Eau Claire
April 27-30

RELEASED: April 21, 2006

Sandlot posterEAU CLAIRE — "The Sandlot" (1993) will screen April 27-30 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. A warmhearted comedy about a summer of friendship and adventure, the film will be presented at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday in Davies Theatre.

It's the early 1960s and 5th-grader Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) has just moved into town with his folks (Karen Allen, Denis Leary). At first Scotty is an outcast, but that changes when the leader of the neighborhood gang recruits him to play baseball on the nearby sandlot field. It's the beginning of a magical summer of wild adventure, first kisses, and fearsome confrontations with the dreaded beast and its owner (James Earl Jones) who live behind the left field fence. Before long, nine boys have become best friends, Scotty is part of a team, and their leader has become a local legend.

Directed by David M. Evans, the 101-minute film is rated PG.

Admission is $2 for International Film Society members and UW-Eau Claire faculty/staff, or $1 for UW-Eau Claire students. Tickets are available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, in Davies Center's east lobby and at the door.

The film is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
