UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education to Sponsor Aging Summit VI

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education and Advisors on Gerontological Education will present "Aging Summit VI-Person-Directed Care Across the Continuum: Making Choices available to Seniors and Families" in Eau Claire on May 19.

The summit, designed for health care and aging services professionals, providers of senior and long term care services, community leaders, policy makers, and others interested in and concerned with the impact of aging, will be held at the Plaza Hotel and Suites from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Keynote speaker John George is the nursing home administrator at Saint John's on the Lake in Milwaukee, an elder care facility dedicated to turning its hospital-like environment into a true home. George is one of the culture change leaders at St. John's in moving from a medical to a social model. He recently appeared in the PBS film "Almost Home," which documents St. John's on the Lake's changes. John will describe his vision of culture change and the obstacles he has encountered in realizing it. Other summit topics include self determination, Wisconsin aging initiatives and a panel on best practices.

The workshop fee is $40 and includes lunch and refreshments and program materials. Social workers may receive .5 CEUs, nurses 6.2 nursing education contact hours, and NAB/NCERS approval is pending.
