UW-Eau Claire Symphony Band to Perform Spring Concert April 30

RELEASED: April 14, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band will present its spring concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Symphony Band, conducted by Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music, will begin the concert with "Festivo" by Edward Gregson and "Blessed Are They" from Brahms' "German Requiem." Senior Colin Gilliland, Fond du Lac, winner of the Student Concerto Competition, will be featured as a guest trombone soloist in Launy Grondahl's Concerto for Trombone. Also to be featured in the concert as a guest conductor is senior Amy McCoy, Rosendale, winner of the Student Conducting Competition.

The second half of the concert will open with Fisher Tull's "Sketches on a Tudor Psalm." Following the piece by Tull, R. Mark Heidel, associate professor of music, will serve as guest conductor for the ensemble in its performance of Ron Nelson's "Morning Alleluias for the Winter Solstice." The concert will conclude with "Moorside March" by Gustav Holst, as arranged by Gordon Jacob.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
