34th Annual Honors Week Scheduled
for April 24-30 at UW-Eau Claire

RELEASED: April 12, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is celebrating its 34th annual Scholastic Honors Week Monday, April 24, through Sunday, April 30. This week is the time set aside by the university to recognize students of high scholastic achievement.

The following programs, with the exception of the Honors Banquet, are open to the public and free of charge. All events will take place in Davies Center unless otherwise noted.

Monday, April 24

  • No events planned

Tuesday, April 25

  • 5 p.m. — Alumni Room (Sigma Gamma Zeta II)
  • 5:30 p.m. — Banquet and awards presentation - Presidents Room (Sigma Pi Sigma)
  • 8 p.m. — Initiation - Alumni Room (Order of Omega)

Wednesday, April 26

  • 11 a.m. — Brown Bag lunch and presentation by Dr. P.J. Kennedy, director of counseling services - Ojibwa Room (Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma
  • 11:30 a.m. — Brown Bag Prose Reading - The Cabin (Phi Kappa Phi)
    "Reading, Writing and Publishing the Disability Experience: To the Left of Inspiration," Dr. Kathie Schneider, Author and Counseling Emerita
  • 4 p.m. — Economics faculty debate - Davies Theatre (Omicron Delta Epsilon)
  • 4 p.m. — Juegos Florales Poetry Reading Competition in Spanish - Presidents Room (Sigma Delta Pi)
  • 6 p.m. — Graduate school application - personal statement writing workshop with Dr. Mickey Crothers, associate professor of psychology - Presidents Room (Golden Key)

Thursday, April 27

  • 11:30 a.m. — Nursing research luncheon - Tamarack Room ( School of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau)
  • 5:30 p.m. — Initiation - Alumni Room (Pi Sigma Alpha)
  • 7 p.m.-midnight — Annual SOPHS Telethon with TV 10 - Towers TV Lounge/TV 10 studio (SOPHS)

Friday, April 28

  • 8:30 a.m. — Annual Kaleidoscope of Nursing Research Day - keynote speaker Dr. Carol Picard - Davies Theatre and Nursing Building (Sigma Theta Tau, School of Nursing, Continuing Education)
  • 4 p.m. — Reception for inductees and Dr. Carol Picard - Willow Lounge of Davies Center (Sigma Theta Tau)
    The Delta Phi Chapter of the Honor Society of Nursing:  Sigma Theta Tau, International at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is honored to host the President of Sigma Theta Tau, International, Carol Picard, RN, PhD for the celebration of our 25th Anniversary as a chapter during Honor's Week. Dr. Picard will address the Delta Phi chapter's new inductees, parents, and members with the following keynote presentation:  "From Vision to Action:  Collaboration to Improve World Health".
  • 5:30 p.m. — 25th anniversary and Induction Dinner/Ceremony - Dulany Inn or Council Fire Room (Sigma Theta Tau International )

Saturday, April 29 — Honors Day

  • 11 a.m. — Initiation - Schofield Auditorium (Phi Kappa Phi)
  • 1 p.m. — Initiation - Alumni Room (Beta Gamma Sigma)
  • 2 p.m. — Initiation - Schofield Auditorium (Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma)
  • 2-5 p.m. — Combined reception - Council Fire Room - Sponsored by the Alumni Association and UW-Eau Claire honors groups (for all honor society members, friends and families attending initiations or events)
  • 2:30 p.m. — Initiation - Presidents Room (Beta Alpha Psi)
  • 4 p.m. — Initiation - Davies Theatre (Omicron Delta Kappa)
  • 5:30 p.m. — 2006 Honors Banquet - Spruce/Tamarack, Davies Center (Seating will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets available at University Service Center, $14 per person.)

Sunday, April 30

  • 11:30 a.m. — Initiation ceremony - Central Campus Mall or Davies Theatre in the case of inclement weather (Mortar Board). A noon brunch will follow in the Council Fire Room.
