EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Concert Choir will perform its spring concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Concert Choir, under the direction of Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of music, will begin the concert with Orlando Gibbons' "Hosanna to the Son of David" and Jacob Handl's "Exsultate Justi in Domino." Mozart's "Regina Coeli" will follow. "When David Heard" by Norman Dinerstein and "Pilgrims' Hymn" by Stephen Paulus also will be presented. Z. Randall Stroope's "The Conversion of Saul" and "Soon-Ah Will Be Done" by William Dawson will close the first half of the concert. Stroope visited the campus in March as a guest artist to work with the choirs on campus.

The second half will feature Impromptu, a mixed voice a cappella group auditioned out of the Concert Choir. They will sing "Selig Sind die Toten" by Heinrich Schütz and "Little Red Riding Hood," as arranged by former Impromptu member, David Fehr. The members of Impromptu are seniors Marilyn Spiess, Waconia, Minn., Mark Lundin, Blaine, Minn., and C. Max Athorn, Minneapolis, Minn.; junior Caitlin Nelson, Green Bay; sophomore Allison Wells, Eau Claire; and freshman Luke Wolfe, Maple Grove, Minn.

The rest of the choir will return to the stage to perform David Childs' "The Moon is Distant from the Sea" and Morten Lauridsen's "Sure on This Shining Night." Alan Rieck, associate professor of music, will conduct the ensemble in "A Handsome Black Gallop," a Chinese folk song. The Concert Choir will conclude with "Ezekiel Saw De Wheel" by Moses Hogan. Sophomore Meghan Quinn, Shoreview, Minn., and senior Margaret Hartzheim, Green Bay, will accompany the choir.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
