UW-Eau Claire Center for Service-Learning
to Recognize Volunteers at Recognition Breakfast

RELEASED: April 5, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire's Center for Service-Learning will host the 8th Annual Service-Learning Recognition Breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the Tamarack Room of Davies Center.

The theme for this year's breakfast is "Service at the Core of Education for 10 Years Running." Although this is the 8th annual breakfast, Service-Learning has been a graduation requirement for the past 10 years.

According to Dr. Donald Mowry, director of the Center for Service-Learning, in the past 10 years UW-Eau Claire students have served a total of 615,960 hours in the community.

"And we feel this is a conservative number, as many students go beyond their 30-hour requirement and continue serving their communities beyond the requirement," said Mowry.

The event will recognize students, project supervisors from service-learning community partners and faculty/academic staff mentors for demonstrated excellence in service-learning. This year a new award category will recognize alumni for excellence in service-learning.

For more information, contact Benita Wagner, program associate in the Center for Service-Learning, at (715) 836-4649 or wagnerbj@uwec.edu.
