Counseling Services Offering Nine Groups for Fall 2005 Semester

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Counseling Services are offering nine groups for the fall 2005 semester.

  • ADD/ADHD Support Group: 2-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 11-Nov. 15
    This is a six-session group to help recognize participants' strengths and weaknesses, address self-esteem and criticism, improve their relationships, and improve time management and organizational skills. Pete Chellman is the group facilitator.
  • Assertiveness Skills Group: 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 12-Nov. 16
    This is a six-session group that provides training in assertive social skills. Participants will learn to express themselves and feel good about doing so, without hurting others in the process. Pete Chellman is the group facilitator.
  • Coping with Depression: 12:45-1:45 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 12-Nov. 16
    This is a six-session educational, cognitive and experiential group that will discuss techniques, ideas, and strategies for working through "down times." It is a supportive group environment for the college student. Dr. Roberta Goodman is the group facilitator.
  • Dissertator's Support Group: 4-5 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 12-Dec. 12
    This group is intended for faculty and staff working to complete their dissertations and is based on the work of UW-Madison professor Richard Johnson. Participants will work on setting weekly goals, developing strategies to accomplish tasks efficiently, and providing mutual support and accountability. Dr. Nina Albanese-Kotar is the group facilitator.
  • First Offenders Alcohol Education Groups
    These groups are offered on an as-needed basis and facilitated by Counseling Services staff. The program meets the requirements of the Eau Claire Courts' "First Time Offender" Program. For more information, call 836-5521 or go to the Counseling Services office at Old Library 2122.
  • GLBT Personal Growth Group
    This group is a safe, confidential place for participants to talk about themselves and other acceptance issues, self-understanding and self-esteem. A supportive group environment is maintained. For more information or to sign up for a pre-registration appointment, contact Dr. Roberta Goodman, group facilitator, at 836-5521.
  • Grief Support Group: 3:30-5 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 6-27
    This is a four-session group that discusses the universal, common and unique experience of grief. The group will focus on expressing grief, which is essential for good emotional and physical health. Barbara Deutscher, the group facilitator, will encourage participants to listen to each other.
  • Success Skills Group: 3-4 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 27-Dec. 8
    This six-session group will focus on skills that support personal success. These skills include goal setting, time management, active listening, personal communication, conflict resolution, stress management and personal health practices. Dr. P.J. Kennedy is the group facilitator.
  • Women's Self-Esteem Group: 3-4 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 20-Dec. 15
    This eight-session group will explore the process of awakening from the "trance of unworthiness" as described by Tara Brach in her book "Radical Acceptance." Participants will practice the guided reflections and meditations recommended by Dr. Brach and keep a positivity journal. Dr. Nina Albanese-Kotar is the group facilitator.
