Study Abroad Fair Set for Oct. 6 at UW-Eau Claire

RELEASED: Sept. 22, 2005

UW-Eau Claire students snorkelingEAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students and faculty can find an abundance of information about the opportunities to experience life in countries such as Chile, Latvia and South Africa at the Study Abroad Fair.

The fair, which is sponsored by the Center for International Education, will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. The fair will showcase study abroad programs in nearly 30 countries.

New summer programs are the Central European Travel Seminar, the Costa Rica nursing program and Daugavpils, Latvia. Also offered this year are semester options in Costa Rica/Nicaragua and the ISEP-Direct, which is a consortium of schools that provides study abroad options in 20 countries.

Returnees from each of the programs will be available to answer questions, and interested faculty also can learn about the options for teaching abroad. A free application fee will be raffled off every 15 minutes. Free food and refreshments also will be provided.

According to study abroad coordinator Susan Lochner, international guests from Australia (Perth and Lismore), Costa Rica and Spain will discuss their programs at the Study Abroad Fair.

Senior Colleen Bender, who studied in San Jose, Costa Rica, said the fair offers an opportunity to talk with returnees and international partners from different programs so students can compare the different offerings and find the program that's right for them.

"Students have a 'one-stop' shop for study abroad at the fair," Bender said.

The Study Abroad Fair is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Lochner at the Center for International Education, (715) 836-4411 or lochnesa@uwec.edu.
