University Recreation brochure logoEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's first Michael Noll Memorial Fun Run is slated for Oct. 8. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the run will begin at 10 a.m. in the parking lot by the Haas Fine Arts Center on lower campus.

The 5K Fun Run will be the final event of UW-Eau Claire's National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week activities. Alcohol Awareness Week is Oct. 2-8.

"The run is a way to involve students in a healthy activity to promote responsible choices among their peers and to encourage them to develop a strong support system of friends on campus," said Jodi Thesing-Ritter, associate dean of Student Development and Diversity.

Michael Noll was a UW-Eau Claire senior who died in 2002 after celebrating his birthday. The Rochester, Minn., native was studying biology, with dreams of someday teaching.

The event is sponsored in part by Jeff and Carol Noll, in memory of their son Michael Noll. Jeff Noll and a number of Michael's friends will participate in the event.

"It's nice to know that Mike's memory is kept alive at UW-Eau Claire," said Jeff Noll, Michael's father. "We're in support of anything that helps promote building friendships and positive relationships in the campus community."

Members of the UW-Eau Claire campus or Eau Claire area communities can register for the race as individuals or as teams. Pre-registration should be submitted by Oct. 3 to the Student Senate Office in Davies Center or the Hilltop Recreation Desk on upper campus. Registration also will be accepted on the day of the event. Registration forms also are available online.

There will be a $15 registration fee, all of which will go to the Center for Alcohol Studies and Education. In addition to awards for best times, prizes will be given to teams and individuals that raise the most money for the Center for Alcohol Studies and Education.

The Center's mission is to reduce high-risk drinking and the negative consequences associated with high-risk drinking.

The run/walk will be coordinated by the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate in conjunction with University Athletics and University Recreation.

For details about the race, contact Thesing-Ritter at (715) 836-2325 or Michelle Madsen at (715) 836-4876.
