Musical Events for the Week of Sept. 26

RELEASED: Sept. 20, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Sept. 26. All events are free and open to the public.

Wednesday, Sept. 28:

  • Brian L. Bowman will present a master class to all interested musicians at 6 p.m. in room 143 of Haas Fine Arts Center. The topic will be musical interpretation.

Friday, Sept. 30:

  • Guest Artist Brian L. Bowman, a world-renowned performer, will present a euphonium concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The program will open with Arioso and Allegro, by Belgian composer Joseph Hector Fiocco, followed by Maurice Ravel's "Piece en Forme de Habanera." Works by composers Yasuhide Ito, Hiroshi Hoshina, Joseph DeLuca and Eduardo Boccalari also will be featured in the performance. Bowman's performance will conclude with Fantasia di Concerto from Boccalari's "Sounds from the Rivera." Bowman will be accompanied by Barbara Young, lecturer of music.

Sunday, Oct. 2:

  • Paul Kosower, professor of music, will present a faculty cello recital at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Kosower will open with Mendelssohn's "Song Without Words," followed by Sonata No. 3 in A Major by Beethoven. "Restful Woods" by Antonin Dvorak also will be featured in the concert. Kosower will bring the performance to a close with Edvard Grieg's Sonata in A minor. Namji Kim, assistant professor of music, will serve as accompanist for the recital.
