Media Memo: Hurricane-Related Fundraising Activities at UW-Eau Claire

RELEASED: Sept. 9, 2005

Several UW-Eau Claire student organizations are planning activities to help raise money for the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Disaster Fund.

  • The Social Greek Organizations (fraternities and sororities) will sell coffee and donuts from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 12-13 on the Central Campus Mall. Sodexho Dining Services and Festival Foods are contributing food items at cost or free so that all proceeds can be sent directly to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Disaster Fund.
  • The Activities and Programs Office CALL volunteer services program will have a table at the Blugold Organizations Bash accepting cash donations for the ASPCA and the American Humane Association efforts on behalf of animals stranded in the wake of the hurricane disaster. All proceeds will be directed to those two entities. The bash will run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 14 on the Central Campus Mall. The event will move to Zorn Arena if it rains.
  • As soon as they are received from the manufacturer, 3,000 Hurricane Katrina silicon wrist bands will be available for sale in Davies Center. The Mortar Board, Golden Key and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies will run the table sales. Wrist bands also will be available for sale in some residence halls. An announcement will be made when the wrist bands arrive.

For details about the activities, contact Paula Stuettgen at (715) 836-4803 or stuettpj@uwec.edu.
