Motivational Interviewing Programs Offered
By UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education

RELEASED: Sept. 6, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will present Introduction to Motivational Interviewing" and "Motivational Interviewing Applied" beginning in October. Both programs are designed for social workers, nurses and other health professionals, behavioral health counselors, health educators, correctional counselors, educators, clergy, human service professionals and others who confront substance abuse, smoking abatement, weight loss and other behavior change resistance issues in their daily practice. Dr. Debra A. Murray, associate professor of psychology at Viterbo University and coordinator of their Alcohol and Drug Counseling Certification Program, will present both programs.

"Introduction to Motivational Interviewing" will be offered Oct. 11 in Rice Lake, and

Nov. 1 in Oconomowoc. The program fee is $125 per person.

“Motivational Interviewing Applied" will be offered Dec. 8 in Stevens Point. ("Introduction to Motivational Interviewing" is a prerequisite.) The program fee is $149 per person.

Both programs begin at 8:30 a.m., conclude at 4:15 p.m. and include instruction, program materials, refreshment breaks and lunch. Each program offers .06 CEUs for six hours of instruction and meets Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing requirements for continuing education for social workers, marriage and family therapists, and psychologists and other professionals for whom licensure is dependent upon continuing education offered by an accredited university.
