Foster Gallery Opens Fall Semester With Faculty Art Show

RELEASED: Sept. 1, 2005

One of Li-Ying Bao's illustrations from the fictional work "Dueling Grandmothers" and Susan O'Brien's 2005 porcelain teapot will be among the exhibits on display during UW-Eau Claire's Faculty Art Show Sept. 8-29 in Foster Gallery.

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Foster Gallery, located in the Haas Fine Arts Center, will open the fall season in its traditional way, with a Faculty Art Show featuring the results of the past year's research by studio art faculty from the department of art & design. The exhibit will open Thursday, Sept. 8, with an opening reception in the gallery from 7:30-9 p.m.

This fall the featured faculty artists are Li-Ying Bao, associate professor of art & design, and Susan O'Brien, an assistant professor of art & design who joined the faculty in 2004. Bao teaches graphic design and electronic interactive media design, and O'Brien teaches ceramics and three-dimensional design courses. The Faculty Art Show runs through Sept. 29.

Bao will be exhibiting seven illustrations published over the past 2-3 years in the North American Review, one of the nation's oldest and most respected literary magazines publishing contemporary short fiction and poetry. Each of the seven illustrations was created to accompany a different short story.

O'Brien creates pottery which is functional in nature but layered with decorative and historical information. She will be exhibiting vases, tea and coffee services, dinnerware, and other table embellishments.

Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening and 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information about gallery exhibits, call Foster Gallery director Tom Wagener at (715) 836-2328.
