Musical Events For the Week of Oct. 24

RELEASED: Oct. 18, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of music and theatre arts will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Oct. 24. All events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Oct. 25:

  • Senior Randall Pingrey, Baraboo, will present a trombone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Pingrey will open with Cello Suite #1 by Bach and a piece by Mark Phillips. The second half of the program will feature Pingrey's arrangement of Duke Ellington's "Satin Doll" as well as three original works by Pingrey. The final piece of the performance will be Pingrey's "Bouncin' with Beckett."

Sunday, Oct. 30:

  • The Wisconsin Woodwind Quintet will give a concert at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The quintet features Timothy Lane, professor of music, on flute; Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music, on oboe; Richard Fletcher, professor of music, on clarinet; Kristine Fletcher, senior lecturer of music, on bassoon; and Verle Ormsby Jr., lecturer of music, on horn. The ensemble will open with Quintette pour Instruments à Vent by Paul Taffanel. The quintet also will perform works by Astor Piazzolla and Elsa Barraine. The concert will conclude with an arrangement of "Miniatures" by William Grant Still.
