Story Idea/Campus Expert
Jennifer Johs-Artinsensi, assistant professor of public health professions, has done research on best practices related to relocating residents when nursing homes are closed.
Her research team surveyed administrators of facilities that had recently relocated residents, residents who were relocated, and the families of residents who were relocated. Johs-Artinsensi will share her research findings during a presentation at 12:10 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Presidents Room of Davies Center. Her talk is timely given news about the planned closing of Lakeside Nursing & Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls. Many student and alumni activities are planned for the Oct. 14-16 Homecoming celebration. Activities that might provide story and/or photo opportunities are:

  • Varsity Night Live!, 7 p.m., Oct. 14, Zorn Arena. The show will feature students and comedian Horace H.B. Sanders.
  • Homecoming parade, 10 a.m., Oct. 15, First Avenue.
  • Blugold Fever Fest, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 15, Carson Park. Alumni will gather for a pre-game celebration. The Blugold Marching Band will provide disco tunes.
  • Football game against UW-Stout, 1 p.m., Oct. 15, Carson Park.
  • "Disco Fever, Blugold Style," 4 p.m., Oct. 15, Council Fire Room, Davies Center. Alumni will go back to the days of polyester, platform shoes and music with a disco beat. Prizes will be given for the best disco costumes.
  • Education Alumni Hike and Bike, Oct. 15. Alumni will gather on the Chippewa River Trail before the Homecoming parade.
  • Nursing 40-Year Anniversary Celebration, Oct. 15. UW-Eau Claire's nursing program was established 40 years ago. Nursing alumni will attend an anniversary celebration from 7:30-10 a.m., which includes a walk about campus, nursing program update and announcement of a fundraising campaign to support nursing students, faculty and programs.
  • Soccer Alumni Game, Oct. 16. The UW-Eau Claire alumni soccer game will be held at noon on Sunday at the Eau Claire Soccer Complex/Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center. A cookout with the current UW-Eau Claire Soccer Club team will follow at approximately 2 p.m.
