Three UW-Eau Claire Students Received Journalism Scholarships

RELEASED: Oct. 10, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — Three University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire students received 2005-2006 Greater Milwaukee Journal Foundation Walter Jay and Clara Charlotte Damm Scholarships.

Senior Adam Stapel, a journalism major and business administration minor from Marinette, received $1,500.

Junior Megan Engmark, a mass communication major and writing minor from Excelsior, Minn., was awarded $1000.

Junior Katie Miles, Couderay, a mass communication major with a global studies minor, received $1000.

The scholarships are awarded to full-time continuing students pursing a career in radio, television or other news and entertainment communications media. The primary criteria for selection are financial need and scholastic ability.

Preference for the scholarship also is given to students who have a current relationship with Journal Communications, Inc., or one of its subsidiaries such as The Journal Sentinel, Inc., Journal Community Publishing Group, or Journal Broadcast group.

The $3,500 in scholarship funds for tuition and fees is awarded in two parts, half in the fall of 2005 and half in the spring of 2006.

The award winners will be present at the Department of Communication and Journalism Student Excellence Recognition Reception on May 12, 2006, in the Tamarack Room of Davies Center.
