UW-Eau Claire Places in Top Five at Mid-American Forensics Tournament

RELEASED: Oct. 10, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — With only six students competing, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team placed third in the first Mid-American Forensics Tournament and fourth in the second Mid-American Forensics Tournament at Northern Illinois University campus in Dekalb, Ill.

MAFL #1 was hosted by Northern Illinois University on Saturday, Oct.1, and MAFL #2 was hosted by North Central College on Sunday, Oct. 2.

Following are the individual results from Saturday's MAFL #1 tournament:

Junior Christine Zani, Hurley, took first in persuasive speaking, second in communication analysis and third in duo-interpretation with sophomore Hilary Rasmussen, Eau Claire. Rasmussen placed first in dramatic interpretation and fifth in poetry.

Senior Chris Conklin, Green Bay, placed first in after-dinner speaking, and third in both extemporaneous speaking and impromptu speaking.

Junior Betsy Schroeder, Le Center, Minn., took fourth in informative speaking and sixth in persuasive speaking.

Following are the individual results from Sunday's MAFL #2 tournament:

Conklin placed first in after-dinner speaking.

Rasmussen placed first in dramatic interpretation.

Schroeder placed second in informative speaking and fourth in both persuasive speaking and extemporaneous speaking.

Zani took second in communication analysis and fifth in persuasive speaking.
