Tickets Still Available for Art Trip to Chicago; Meetings Scheduled

EAU CLAIRE — Tickets are still available for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of art & design's fall art trip to Chicago. This year's cultural adventure to the Windy City will leave Eau Claire at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, and return the evening of Sunday, Oct. 30, with a stop at the Milwaukee Art Museum on the return trip. The trip is not a guided tour, but plenty of information, along with suggested itineraries, will be provided to make things easier for those unfamiliar with Chicago.

Two more informational meetings about the trip have been scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11, and Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. in Room 105 of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Notable attractions in Chicago and Milwaukee include the following:

The Sculptural Objects and Functional Art International Exhibition will be held at Chicago's Navy Pier Oct. 28-30 with an opening night preview Oct. 27. The 12th annual SOFA exhibition will feature a record number of 100 galleries and dealers.
" Pompeii: Stories from an Eruption" will be on exhibit at The Field Museum Oct. 22 through March 2006. Visitors will see three sites devastated by the famous eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, which destroyed a vibrant, cosmopolitan society overnight.
"Tropicália: A Revolution in Brazilian Culture" will be at the Museum of Contemporary Art from Oct. 22 through Jan 8, 2006. One of the most significant cultural movements to emerge from South America in the last five decades, Tropicalia marked a true revolution in Brazilian music, visual arts, theater, and cinema, while also influencing advertising, fashion, and television.
"Rembrandt and His Time: Masterworks from the Albertina, Vienna," an exhibit of Rembrandt drawings and painting, as well as works by Rembrandt's contemporaries, followers and by later artists whose innovative approach to recording the Dutch world takes the work of Rembrandt a step further, will be at the Milwaukee Art Museum Oct. 8 through Jan 8, 2006.

Tickets are $170 for four-person rooms or $250 for two-person rooms and include three nights at the Howard Johnson Inn in downtown Chicago and round trip motor coach. Museum entry fees are not included. Tickets are now available at the University Service Center and more information can be found at online. The trip is open to all students, faculty and the public.
