Matt Sharp of Weezer and The Rentals to Perform
at UW-Eau Claire Dec. 9

RELEASED: Nov. 22, 2005

Matt SharpEAU CLAIRE — Matt Sharp, of The Rentals and Weezer fame, will headline a concert Friday, Dec. 9, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Doors will open at 8 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. The show is open to all ages.

Sharp is probably best known as a founding member of the popular rock band Weezer. In 1994, following the tremendous success of Weezer's debut collection, the "blue album," Sharp formed the rock band The Rentals. The band's debut album, "Return of The Rentals" (1995) featured the radio hit "Friends of P," which reached number seven on Billboard's modern rock chart and number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Sharp left Weezer in early 1998 after the release of the group's second album, "Pinkerton." In 1999, after touring with The Rentals on the release of its second album "Seven More Minutes," that group disbanded, and Sharp disappeared from the public eye.

Sharp returned in the fall of 2002 on an acoustic tour with guitarist Greg Brown of Cake. In 2003 Sharp released a solo EP, "Puckett's Versus the Country Boy," and in 2004 he released a full-length, self-titled solo album. Last October, on the tenth anniversary of the band's formation, Sharp announced the return of The Rentals.

The Rentals are currently in Los Angeles writing, rehearsing and preparing to record a third album. Sharp's concert at UW-Eau Claire is likely be the last solo acoustic show he will do for some time to come; after this performance, Sharp will return to L.A. to give full attention to the future of The Rentals.

Local group The Daredevil Christopher Wright will open the show.

Tickets are $10 ($7 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID card) at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and will be sold at the door.

Patrons may also charge tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call (715) 836-3727 — or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free (800) 949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.

Proof of age is required for alcohol purchases. The concert is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate and Student Radio Initiative.
