UW-Eau Claire Cyclist Places at Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals

RELEASED: Nov. 18, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire senior Travis James (T.J) Woodruff, Spooner, recently competed at the Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals in Seven Springs Resort, Pa. The event joined top collegiate riders from across the nation for a weekend long race.

Woodruff placed second in the Short Track Cross Country event, an intense, fast-paced 25-minute race around a half mile course. He placed third in the Cross Country event, a 28-mile off-road course.

Woodruff said snowy conditions made for a very cold and challenging competition, but his long time commitment to the sport had him prepared.

"I begin competing in May to achieve top fitness for these high-profile events," said Woodruff. "Training is a year-round commitment."

Woodruff is president of UW-Eau Claire's Cycling Team and has competed in a number of racing events throughout college. He graduates in December with a kinesiology degree and plans to race professionally. Woodruff said his success at nationals was a great way to end his collegiate cycling career.
