Women's Concert Chorale to Perform Fall Concert

RELEASED: Nov. 16, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Women's Concert Chorale will present their fall concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Women's Concert Chorale, under the direction of Alan Rieck, associate professor of music, will open the performance with "A Jubilant Song" by James McCray. Senior Aurora Conde, Altoona, and senior Carrie Bruce, Wind Lake, will serve as student conductors in the first set of music. Allen Koepke's "Dance on My Heart" will conclude the first half of the concert.

The second half of the concert will open with "Hand in Hand," a piece the choir was introduced to on their international tour to the Peoples Republic of China in March 2005. "Kalinka," a Russian folk song arranged by Joan Gergoryk, and "Dies Irae" by Z. Randall Stroope also will be featured in the second half of the concert. Stroope's "Dies Irae" translates to "Day of Wrath." The final selections the ensemble will perform are Gwyneth Walker's "I Thank You, God" and Ysaye Barnwell's "We Are."

"This program is full of energy," said Rieck. "I think the audience will enjoy the power in the voices, but also some of the subtleties that are present. It all adds up to some beautiful music."

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
