UW-Eau Claire Names New Continuing Education Director

RELEASED: May 24, 2005

George J. KroeningerEAU CLAIRE — A Wisconsin native with more than 15 years of leadership experience within government and nonprofit organizations has been named director of Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

George J. Kroeninger will begin his duties as Continuing Education director July 18, replacing Douglas Pearson Jr., who has served as interim director of Continuing Education since October 2004.

Continuing Education — located at 210 Water St. — is charged with establishing collaborative ties on and off the campus to provide educational programs, services and partnerships for pre-college, non-traditional, special and non-degree students as well as regional employers.

"I'm extremely confident that George Kroeninger will provide the leadership and expertise Continuing Education needs as it continues to enhance and expand its many high quality, enriching programs," said Andrew Phillips, interim associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies. "As the university's outreach unit, these programs help meet the needs of area individuals and small businesses, providing a great service to our region and state."

In a letter to UW-Eau Claire's search and screen committee, Kroeninger said he has significant experience developing and delivering continuing education programs for physicians and allied health professionals, nonprofit and community leaders, professional association members and others.

"Exciting, empowering and engaging people through education are my passion," Kroeninger said, noting that his leadership skills also will help him succeed in his new position.

Kroeninger currently is the executive director of Be Active Minnesota, based in Minneapolis. Other positions he's held include director of medical and community education for the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation in Minneapolis; wellness administrator/staff liaison for the Foothills Park and Recreation District/Foothills Foundation Community Wellness Program in Lakewood, Colo.; and health promotion coordinator for Dominican Health Care Inc./St. Catherine's Hospital in Kenosha.

Kroeninger earned a bachelor's degree from UW-Oshkosh and a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.

Phillips acknowledged Pearson's hard work during his months in the interim position, helping keep Continuing Education moving forward while the university looked for a permanent director who could best meet the unit's needs.

"Under his leadership, Continuing Education was able to provide the kinds of quality programs that people and businesses have come to expect from UW-Eau Claire," Phillips said.
