Ten UW-Eau Claire Students to Display Art Collaborations at benny HaHa

RELEASED: May 4, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — Ten University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire art students will display their work May 5-14 at benny HaHa, an art supply store, gallery and studio in downtown Eau Claire. The exhibit, titled "Collaborations: Creating Art Networks," will open with a reception at the store/studio from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5.

For this exhibit students were asked to create works in collaboration with someone at a distance. Students chose to work with people as close as Menomonie and as far away as Australia to create their works. The students are all members of the university's advanced two-dimensional and three-dimensional studio classes taught by Cara Tomlinson, assistant professor of art and design.

The participating students are seniors Nichole Abrashinsky, Chetek; Samantha Siker, Janesville; Jane Ovanin, Amherst; Erin Page, Park Falls; Cecelia Hutte, Park Falls; Sarah Sturgis, Chaska, Minn.; Tyler Moen, Colfax; Colleen Keegan, Eau Claire; Abigail Rindo, Eau Claire; and Andrea Hullett, Chetek.

One of the biggest concerns for most graduating art students is how to find a supportive community of artists once they leave school. The object of this project was for students to identify individuals with whom they would be interested in creating temporary art communities. Through this exhibit, students formed connections between the university art community, the arts community in Eau Claire and the many special networks they created through their collaborations.
