EAU CLAIRE — Winners of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's 48th annual Juried Student Art Show were announced on April 21 at a reception and awards presentation. The winners were selected by juror Linda Robbennolt, a professional photographer and faculty member in the art department at the University of Illinois.

Senior Jane Ovanin, Amherst, was awarded first place for her sculpture "Porch Sunrise," a piece Ovanin said she created as a tribute to her parents using her memories of their forty-acre property outside of Amherst. Ovanin said, "It is rewarding and validating to know that a professional artist thinks my work is impressive."

Senior Morgan Hanson, Amery, received second place for her sculpture "The Other Woman," and senior Kao Yang, Wausau, was awarded third place for her untitled wall relief in the gallery. In addition to the winners, honorable mentions were given to senior Benjamin Lamp, Gilberts, Ill., for his sculpture "Rebuilt"; senior Tiffany Bailey, Bagley, for her sculpture "Tree of Life"; senior Abigail Rindo, Eau Claire, for her untitled acrylic painting; senior Davin Haukebo-Bol, Stillwater, Minn., for his video "Dance Bjorn, Dance"; and senior Anne Jensen, Black River Falls, for "Reliquary for Cremains," using mixed media.

The exhibit of UW-Eau Claire student artwork will be on display through May 15 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Admission to the exhibit is free.

Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening and 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information about gallery exhibits, call Foster Gallery director Tom Wagener at (715) 836-2328.
