UW-Eau Claire Announces Spanish Week Events

EAU CLAIRE — The annual Spanish Dinner slated for April 3 will kick off 2005 Spanish Week activities at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The Spanish Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. April 3 in the Dulany Inn of Davies Center. The event will include a presentation by Raquel Reiter, a registered nurse with the Marshfield Clinic, and Tom Reiter, a planner for the City of Eau Claire. Their presentation is titled "Medical Mission Experiences in Peru." Dr. Carter Smith, assistant professor of foreign languages, will provide music.

Tickets for the dinner are $12.50 for UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff and for the general public; $7 for children and UW-Eau Claire students; and $6 for members of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Hispanic Honor Society that will host the dinner.

Other Spanish Week activities include:

Sigma Delta Pi Book and Craft Sale, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., April 4-5, third floor, Hibbard Hall.
Sigma Delta Pi initiation ceremony, 7 p.m., April 5, Penthouse, Hibbard Hall.
"Beyond the Classroom: A Panel Discussion on Spanish for Business," 4 p.m., April 6, Alumni Room, Davies Center.
"Una fiesta para niños (A Spanish Experience for Children)," 5 p.m., April 7, Room 324, Hibbard Hall.
"Dos matadores/pintores: un español y un estadounidense (Two Matador-Painters: One Spanish and One American)," 7:30 p.m., April 7, Potawatomi Room, Davies, Center. Roma Hoff, professor emerita for foreign languages, will present the program.
Lecciones de baile (Dance Lessons), 3 p.m., April 8, Tamarack room, Davies Center. The lessons will include the salsa, merengue and tango for new and experienced dancers.
