SUBJECT: Farewell Reception for Sister Joel Jacobi — TODAY

Sister Joel JacobiUW-Eau Claire's College of Nursing and Health Sciences will host a farewell reception for Sister Joel Jacobi at 2:30 pm. TODAY (Friday, June 3) in Room 105 of the Nursing Building on lower campus.

Sister Jacobi came to Eau Claire in 1965 at the request of then-Chancellor Leonard Haas to conduct a feasibility study regarding the development of a nursing school. She advised that a nursing bachelor's degree program be developed at UW-Eau Claire.

She returned to UW-Eau Claire in 1970 as a member of the nursing faculty, serving as a department chair for a number of years. She retired from the family health nursing department in 1995 at the age of 76.

Sister Jacobi started the St. Francis Food Pantry and has been involved in many other community initiatives.

She is now moving to the Mother House for the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis in Springfield, Ill.

This afternoon, emeriti nursing faculty, former faculty and current nursing faculty will gather to say farewell to Sister Jacobi. Emeriti faculty are coming from as far away as Ohio for the reception.

Dr. Elaine Wendt, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, describes Sister Jacobi's departure as "an end of an era" since she is the last of the hospital sisters left in Eau Claire.

The media is welcome to attend today's farewell reception.
