The 37th annual Blugold Boys and Girls All-Sport Camp is continuing this week on the UW-Eau Claire campus. The camp gets 75 children ages 5-12 involved with activities that are designed to get them moving and to emphasize skills that will help them succeed in various sports and physical activities. The camp runs from 9-11:30 a.m. Monday-Friday in the McPhee Physical Education Center on upper campus. Activities focus on things like throwing, catching, dribbling, aerobic endurance, strength and flexibility. Gymnastics and swimming are among the camp's regular activities. Recent findings from UW-Eau Claire's Child and Adolescent Research Institute relating to the use of psychiatric medication for treatment of school-aged children will be the topic of a July 27 presentation hosted by the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association. William Frankenberger, professor of psychology and co-director of the university's school psychology program, will talk from noon-1 p.m. at Sweetwater's. His talk, titled "Treating Children with Psychiatric Disorders: Is Medication Enough?," is part of the Alumni Association's "Let's Do Lunch" series. The presentation will focus on research by the Child and Adolescent Research Institute, which has examined types and rates of medication used to treat children for psychiatric disorders, the effects and concerns associated with the use of medication, and interventions that may be used to supplement or supplant medical interventions. Frankenberger will discuss the details of the research and will answer audience questions regarding the study. The media is welcome. Summer Winds is a series of three chamber recitals for winds and piano that is being presented at UW-Eau Claire this summer. The second presentation, a recital of music for flute and piano, will begin at 2 p.m. July 31 in the Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The recital will feature Tim Lane and Beverly Soll. The recital is free and open to the public.
