Matt Wahl to Wrap Up Summer Session Concerts

Matt WahlEAU CLAIRE — A free outdoor concert by singer-songwriter Matt Wahl on Monday, Aug. 1, will begin the last week of Summer Session Programs at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall. Refreshments will be sold. Audience members are invited to bring blankets or folding chairs for lawn seating.

An Eau Claire native, Matt Wahl wins fans everywhere he goes with his deep baritone voice and upbeat, insightful, original songs. He plays between 150 and 200 shows a year in all sorts of venues and is a perennial favorite on the Music on the Mall series.

Also on campus, the Summer Cinema series will conclude its festival of horror films with "Dawn of the Dead" (2004), screening at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday in Davies Theatre. Zack Snyder directed this remake of George A. Romero's 1979 original, in which the survivors of a worldwide plague try to escape hoards of flesh-eating zombies by taking refuge in a mega shopping mall. Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Jake Weber and Mekhi Phifer star in the 100-minute film, which is rated R.

Funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire, the Summer Session Programs series is presented annually by the Activities and Programs office.
