EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Jan. 31. All events are free and open to the public.
Sunday, Feb. 6:
Dr. Jerry Young, on tuba, and Dr. Barbara Young, on piano, will perform a joint faculty recital at 2 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The first half of their program will feature a sonata for tuba and piano by Zoltan Gárdonyi and four "Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen" (Songs of a Wayfarer) by Gustav Mahler. The piece by Gárdonyi, composed in 1948/1951, is believed to be the first serious sonata-type composition written for those two instruments. The second half of the program will feature G. F. Händel's "Aria con Variazioni 'The Harmonious Blacksmith'" and Enrique Crespo's "Escenas Latinas."
