Super Bowl Advertising to Be Topic of UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association Speaker Series

RELEASED: Jan. 11, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — "Super Bowl Advertising: At Work While You Play!" will be the focus of a noon-hour luncheon presentation hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Alumni Association on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Sweetwaters Restaurant.

Chuck Tomkovick, Ph.D., a professor of management and marketing at UW-Eau Claire, will share insights on the popularity and effectiveness of Super Bowl advertising as part of the Alumni Association's "Let's Do Lunch" series from noon to 1 p.m.

Based on the results of a study published by Tomkovick and his fellow UW-Eau Claire researchers in 2004 in the Journal of Advertising Research, Tomkovick will explain the factors affecting the popularity of Super Bowl ads and why some companies find it worthwhile to pay $2.4 million for 30 seconds of FOX airtime.

The speaker series offers community members a chance to participate in interactive discussions with members of the UW-Eau Claire faculty. Upcoming "Let's Do Lunch" speakers, dates and topics include: Phillip Ihinger, Ph.D., associate professor of geology, and Harry Jol, Ph.D., UW-Eau Claire associate professor of geography and anthropology, Feb. 23, "Tsunamis and Earthquakes: A Dynamic Earth"; Katherine Rhoades, PhD., dean of the College of Education and Human Services, March 30, "Love, Life and Work: The Challenge of Elder Care in the Era of Hypertasking"; and Karen Maddox, R.N., M.S.N., UW-Eau Claire associate professor of family health nursing, April 27, "Adolescent Health: Building Assets, Reducing Risk."

The speaker series is open to the public. The cost is $10 per session and includes the presentation, buffet, beverage, tax and tip.

To make reservations call the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association at (715) 836-3266, or send an e-mail to alumni@uwec.edu.
